Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-dc23923d09e7

Save the file to a folder your harddisk (call it "C:\Downloads"),
do not execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe /o"
Take note of the space before /o

The parameter "/o" (o like OEM) should do the trick for you.

Hope I could help.

Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-dc23923d09e7

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.

Freudi,

I have attempted to follow your instructions with the "/o", however my
computer doesn't recognize the file location with the "/o" attached. I know
I have the rest of the file location correct because when I take the "/o" out
it runs, but fails to finalize the installation per the log in the windows
directory, and window update continues to display KB929338 in the required
updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Von

Please create a folder named "Downloads" on drive c: and copy the file
WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe into that folder. Make sure, you enter
the quotes in "Run" correct:

"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB929338-x86-ENU.exe" /o

Note, there are quotes arround the path to the EXE, followed by a blank
an the parameter /o *without any quotes*. Copy & paste may be a good
thing to do ;-)

Freudi,

Your suggestion worked as far as running the application but the
installation failed. The first line mention failure is, "LoadFileQueues:
UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll failed: 0xe0000102". The next
line is, "LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll failed:
0xe0000102". There are seven consecutive lines that state, "KB928388 Setup
encountered an error: The update.ver file is not correct", and then,
"LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for halacpi.dll failed:
0xe0000102". I concede I have no clue what any of this means, hopefully you
do. Any help would be great, this has been driving me nuts for about a week.

That's really what the update/setup of the update is telling you?

That's "okay" if these error messages are shown in the KB929338.log
file only. In case you have rebooted Windows afterwards, please verify
the file version of the ntkrnkmp.exe, ntkrnlpa.exe, ntkrpamp.exe and
ntoskrnl.exe on your machine. All of them should show "5.1.2600.3051"
as file version. If that's the case, you've installed KB929338 success-
fully.

Bye,
Freudi

I can't get it to stop wanting to install either, did you figure out a way to
do it? the explanations were too complex for me to figure out!

Freudi,

The ntkrnkmp.exe I searched for couldn't be found. the ntkrnlpa.exe was at
version "5.1.2600.2622". The ntkrpamp.exe version was "5.1.2600.3051". The
ntoskrnl.exe version was "5.1.2600.2622". Where the files were found there
were several copies found the version information I took from the first
listing not in blue.
