Windows Update Keeps Freezing PC

sI am using windows Vista SP2 64bit. I have been having the same issue with
windows update for about 1 year now. When I start searching for new updates
my system completley freezes requiring a hard boot. Usualy after the hard
boot and system is restarted then I can run and install updates without a
problem. I use AVG and Advanced System Care Pro to keep my system clean and
tidy so I cant imagine that the problem is a virus etc. I also run into this
problem when using peer2peer networking when uploading and downloading files.
I cannot see any signs of hardware failure in memory, HDD etc.

my spec - xq6800 quad core processor, 4GB RAM, 8800 GTX SLI, 500GB raid 0
drive.

Your injudicious use of Advanced System Care Pro may have caused all your
problems! If you think your Registry needs to be "cleaned" or "repaired,"
read http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

What AV app was installed before your installed AVG and was the subscription
still current?
