system:
windows XP SP2 genuine
WIndows live onecare (recent install)

Hi,

Windows update is continually asking me to install : KB911562.
After instasllation it says that is is successfully installed but
every time I do a windows update it asks for it to install again.
There is nothing in the Event viewer which shoul suggest it di not
install correctly.

I have tried the following:

Downloading and installing in safe mode
disabling onecare virus protection and installing

Neither fixed the problem.

PLEASE HELP - it's really bugging me!

I recently removed NAV and added windows live onecare to my PC, this
is the only thing I can think might have caused the problem.

Thanks, in advance,

Lewis

Lewis,

There are four things you can try:

1) Install the reditributable & see if that fixes the problem. Here is the
download:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2) Got to:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Click the CUSTOM button
Expand the KB911562 & tick the box that says don't show again

3) Download the file as an Automatic Update, click the icon in the system
tray which will open the dialog. When it asks for install type, click the
CUSTOM button & say don't show this update again

4) If all the above fail then post to the Windows Update newsgroup,
available here:

microsoft.public.windowsupdate

Link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...&lang=en&cr=US

I think you may have posted to this newsgroup already

I hope this helps,

Hey Newb's

Thanks for the respone!

I'd tried the first thing you suggested, but am trying out the
others ... I'm also noticing some strange behaviour with the upodate
service, ( wuauclt.exe ) get some really high CPU usage through
svchost needing me to end the process. I'm a little worried that it's
a spyware ... this would be a little annoying as i only just replaced
NAV2006 with Onecare two days ago.

Newbie Coder,
Thank you. I was having the same problem with KB927891. Windows update keeps
installing KB911562 after installing once. To make matters worse with
KB927891, every time I re-installed it, I could not open my NAV, and
repeatedly had to apply their patch "Error: (1002,1) or (1003,1) after
installing a Norton program ". Sorry about the previous post without a
message, as I am a Newbie to Newsgroups.
Regards,
Bromikey

You're on Windows XP SP2? If true, see the following.

<selfquote>
Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-a9f1eae19b51

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.
Note the blank between the last quote sign and the parameter /o!
</selfquote>

Followup To microsoft.public.windowsupate
(Replies to this message should be postet in the Windows Update
newsgroup only)

Bye,
Freudi

Freudi,
Thank you. I was not aware of /O. or. /Overwriteoem. Overwrites OEM files
without prompting
