windows update keeps scanning for new updates but does not display

windows update keeps scanning for new updates with no results. It scans for
hours at a time and never displays anything. Is there a way to fix this
problem or get the recommended updates for windows xp my self ?

I have had the same problem for 2 weeks. Have been emailing MS support---so
far the is has not been resolved. What a mess. I think the fact that you've
had no other replies tells us that our goose is cooked. MS has no clue.
