Windows Update keeps on scanning

When i try to update, and choose either custom or express, my computer is
being scanned. But that's all that happens. It keeps on scanning without ever
reaching a conclusion...

Any thoughts ?

Try registering the following:

Click Start, select Run and type (pressing enter after each one and wait for
the success message):

net.exe stop wuauserv
Press Ok

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll

net.exe start wuauserv

Wow, speedy answer :-) Ty.
All inputs were succefull but it didn't help. Strangely enough if i try to
update via my wife's account everything works fine..

Does the account that you use have full local Administrator rights?

I think you will find you are running mis.dll ver 2.0 on that computer,
update it to ver 3.1 you can find it on Microsoft.com this file is the MS
Installer.
It should help..

I stand corrected. Guess you were right in the first place TaurArian . I
think it needed a reboot or more patience from my side, 'cause tonight after
startup i tried once more and this time it worked. Thx guys for time and
effort.
