Windows update informed me that KB918899 should be processed. I've done
this a couple of times now and it keeps asking. How do I get it to stop?

I am running Windows 2000 with all latest updates.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve
Are you still doing Black Tuesday for August?
This one caused probs in August updates and has been re issued this month.
If you are trying to download the August one I do not think it will work.
It didn't for me at first.
A search/find in windowsupdates should give you quite a few hits as will a
Google.
I know there were a few posts towards the end of Aug re this KB.
The below link might help explain - it appears they have issued another this
Sept with a fix for the probs caused.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918899

Hope you resolve the prob

It's possible this is the fix for what happened in August. I'll keep an
eye on it.

I would have thought they would have used a different number to
differentiate the two updates.

Steven,

Is KB918899 listed in Add/Remove Programs ? If so, uninstall it and then
restart the system.
Then go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-042.mspx

Click the appropriate link for the specific version of IE that is
installed under " Affected components ". That will take you to the MS
Download Center page for the specific version of IE.
Download and SAVE the update, do NOT run it from it's location.
Close IE.
Now install it and then restart.
Did that resolve the prompt to reinstall KB918899 ?

I am having this same issue exept that it is happening on 3 updates instead
of one. Updates KB912812, KB916281, and KB918899 all keep reinstalling
eventhough WSUS states that they have been succesfully installed. Each
update is superseded by the next one but they all keep trying to reinstall.
I've been dealing with this issue since May but I can not figure this out. I
have tried uninstalling all 3 updates from safe mode thein installed them
manually in safe mode. This did not work. Any advice would be appreciated.
