I downloaded and installed the latesy 8 important updates. On restarting I
got a message imprinted on the lower r/h corner of my screen that "this
copy of windows is not genuine". So I system restored to yesterday and all
is now OK. Anyone else had a similar problem or can offer any advice or
comment please?

You may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer on which
Windows Vista was already activated by a Volume License or OEM installation:

I agree. I'm all about keeping things 'secure' and not letting people
steal, but at some point, I as a customer am going to say forget it and go
somewhere else. I've ponied up for my copy of legit Vista Ultimate but I
don't expect to have to prove it all the stinken time.

I'd be ****ed if I walked into a store and on my way out I was asked where I
purchased everything I'm wearing and provide receipts for them.

A certain amount of reasonableness has to come into play. I didn't pay all
that money to sit on the phone talking to a computer (or even worse, someone
with a dialect I can't understand) that is giving me a hard time because my
key is already active.

They do over do it a tad, don't they? Kind like getting too big for
their britches or something like that ... I got XP and Ubuntu. XP for
games and Ubuntu for real work with no need to call anyone for
permission to use it.

As far as Vista is concerned, I think that it is a taste of what's to
come, Vienna and serves as a testing ground for tester who pay to test
it. I wouldn't even consider getting it until after SP2, if then.

I Just Test Installed All 35 Security Related Updates On A Clean Install Of
X64 Windows Vista Ultimate Edition RTM, And The Results Were Sloppy At Best
(The Reboot Process Was Horrible), Just FYI.

P.S. In My Opinion, The Consumer Product Safety Commission Should Force
Microsoft To Recall Windows Vista RTM As A Defective Product, Just FYI.

When they refund me I will. But then again, If I keep my copy I get to bitch
more and more every time this crap happens.

You can just keep being a slave to Microsoft and vista.
