Windows Update Link Gone?

I'm running XP Pro SP2 and I thought I was up to date. Today I was reading
about the new version of IE and thought I'd look at the WU page to see if it
were available. I had WU pinned to my start menu but when I clicked it it said
it couldn't find the link.

I next went to my favorites menu where I had it squirreled away and was able to
get to it from there. Unfortunately, it looked different from before and had me
scroll to select the operating system (32 bit) from lengthy list. I did so and
had it look for any critical updates. It found about 24! Strangely most of
them are in foreign languages so why am I even seeing them?

How do I get things back to normal? I figured I had better stop right where I
was before I go further.

TIA,

I partially answered my own question by going to help and support off my start
button, then selecting "Update my computer". The resulting page is the one I
expected to see and it has my installation history intact.

Now my question is how do I pin this to my start menu again?

Show hidden files, folders, and system files:

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
If C:\ is the root drive (where Windows is installed), then navigate to
C:\WINDOWS\system32
Locate wupdmgr.exe
Right click it and choose Create Shortcut
Drag the shortcut to the Desktop for now
Now navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
Drag the icon to the Start Menu folder
Rename the update to " Windows Update " (without the quotes)
Close My Computer or Windows Explorer
Now click the Start button to view the new shortcut to WU.

Is that the same one that you get to via IE's Tools, Update menu item?
(Alt-T,U) ; )

Drag it from the Address bar once you've opened it a different way?
