Hi,

I am using WinXP Pro SP2.
I just reloaded from my laptop recovery CDs.
Then I go to Windows Update, it check for latest windows update software and
installed.
Then it display a page with 2 links

1) Express Install (Recommended)
2) Custom Install

If I left-click on either link, nothing will happen ... no error message ...
no network activity ...

I have done the register of a list of DLL files,
and also renamed the catroot2

any idea ?
TIA

Steven

Uninstall them through Add/Remove then go to
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-apr.mspx

You should be able to find and download the updates here.

Are you running Windows Update on an administrator account? If you're not
you should be Check to see if the Automatic Updates service is still
running:
Click Start · Control Panel, then select Performance and Maintenance and
click System. Select the Automatic Updates tab and make sure that Automatic
is selected and then click OK.

Now check to see if Automatic Updates is service is running:
Click Start · Run and type "services.msc" without the quotes and press
enter. The Services window should pop-up. Under the name column find
Automatic Updates. If it does not appear there skip over the remainder of
this paragraph, if it is double-click on it; the properties dialog should
open up. Make sure it says "Automatic" in the Startup type box and the
Service status says "Started".

If you've made any changes to this point restart your computer and see if
Windows Update is working yet. If Windows Update continues to display errors
continue on.

Register the DLL files:
Click Start · Run and type "cmd" without the quotes and press enter. Type in
the following and press return after each line:
REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\atl.dll
REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 %windir%\system32\wups.dll
Enter "exit" and press enter.

Check and see if Windows Update is working, if Windows Update continues not
to work please attach your WindowsUpdate.log file. To gather your
WindowsUpdate.log file select Start · Run, and then type "%windir%" and
press enter. The WindowsUpdate.log file will be located in this folder.
