From a Windows XP device (Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600) I'm
attempting to to access the Windows update site and receive the following
response:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

Any ideas on why this message appears and a solution that will allow me to
update from the site?

If you're getting an "undefined" error and not the error message posted by
"davhal," you do not have the "exact same problem."

Otherwise, see http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/35/1/

I DO have the same problem, the error is when i try to launch the automatic
updates in services manual.

Solutions posted give no result, also i get some pop-ups now from
antiespiamaestro.com i have macafee antivirus and spyhunter 3 installed but
find nothing.

Also I have some problems with opening some internet sites now, for example
google search results are not opening.

Please any solution

Hello Richard,

Run an updated antivirus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online.
Sometimes it is a good idea to run more than one to ensure nothing is missed:

Trend Micro House Call <http://housecall.trendmicro.com/>

<http://www.microsoft.com/protect/products/computer/safetyscanner.mspx>

Go here

and look for

Well, "davhal" did not have that problem nor did he state that he was using
McAfee VirusScan and Spyhunter3, so you really don't have the same problem.
That's why it's always best to begin a new thread, even if your problem
appears to be the same as someone else's.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, or other appropriate forums for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

[1] QUOTE: ...SpyHunter -- at least in its current state -- cannot be
recommended because of its mediocre performance as an anti-spyware scanner.
Testing indicates that it does not recognize some well-known spyware
installations and has difficulty removing critical spyware/adware files even
from those it does recognize (1). Given the many excellent competing
anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free), users would do
better looking elsewhere for trustworthy anti-spyware protection.
