Can't use Windows Update. Get error message "Windows Update has encountered
an error and cannot display the requested page."

What now?

RS,

Open the Windows Update.log found in the WINDOWS directory. Scroll
down towards the bottom for the most recent entries and look for an
error code. Then go here :
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
and look for the error code under the " Problem reaching Windows
Update " heading. Try the suggested resolution(s). If the issue is
not resolved, post the last 20 or so lines of the log here including
the error code you located.

Followed your instruction (thanks) but the resolution that I find when I go
to http/v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/ pertains to XP. Not
sure if this also applies to ME. Don't feel comfortable muckin' about in the
registry not knowing this will work for Me as well.

RS ... look for the error CODE in the WU log. Do not go by the error
MESSAGE "Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display
the requested page."

Hey MowGreen,
I noticed that my undeleted email messages in OE were not in order according
to date as they should have been. I went to the control panel and sure
enough the date was way off. I don't know how that happened, but I corrected
the date this a.m. 'n' today when I got home from work 'n' booted up the WU
screen automatically popped up and it worked just fine.
I don't know??? Could that have been the problem 'n' any idea how the date
would have gotten messed up.

Anyway thanks for all your help
