Windows update is messing up my laptop

Hello everyone.. Whenever I go to windows update and install the
latest"recommended" update (Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows
Vista for x64-based Systems (KB960544) My computer will not restart and goes
into startup repair mode...whenever I do a system restore from a point
before this update was installed it works fine..anyone else ever experience
this..thank you.. Mike

Mike,

Have you tried closing all Media Center processes from Task Manager,
disabling all Media Center services, then download and manually install the
Media Center update?
