I'm trying to implement WSUS in an NT domain environment using the client's
local Group Policy editor. On one particular W2K SP4 machine, when I run
'gpedit.msc' I don't see a setting for 'Windows Update.' On other W2K and XP
machines this is what I normally see:

Local Computer Policy
--Software Settings
--Windows Settings
--Administrative Templates
----Windows Components
------NetMeeting
------Internet Explorer
....
------Windows Update
------Windows Media Player

The 'Windows Update' tree contains the policies that allow me to configure
'Automatic Updates' to point to my internal WSUS server. What's missing or
how can I add 'Windows Update' to my GPEdit.msc?

Hi,

Copy %windir%\inf\wuau.adm (mote that inf is a hidden folder) from a
WinXP SP2 computer to %windir%\inf\wuau.adm on the Win2k computer.

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows for WinXP and C:\Winnt for Win2k)

A much easier way to configure your computers (as long as all will have
the same AU/WSUS config) is to export the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft \Windows\WindowsUpdate\
from a computer you have set up correctly (with gpedit.msc), and then
just import that registry file on the other computers (no need to use
gpedit.msc or having an updated wuau.adm).

And a fyi:

For any future WSUS questions, please post WSUS related issues to the
newsgroup dedicated to WSUS:
