Windows update msxml4 creates new root directory... Why?

A windows automatic update ran last night.

It created a new root-level directory with a gibberish name. In the
directory there is an install log:

msxml4-KB927978-enu.log

I assume this is just normal MS quality programming.

Is this just a log, or does it also serve as an uninstall information base?

What can I do to clean up my directory structure?

Have you restarted Windows ever since the update has been installed?
Please check, whether the msxml4.dll file on your systems shows version
4.20.9841.0 now. In case it does, you're save to delete the folder which
is a temporary folder needed while installing the update only.

Then the installation of KB927978 failed, in case that's true after
booting Windows.

You may find the "Know issues" section in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927978 helpful then.
