Windows Update never finishes looking for ( XP )

Hello to all,

I made a new Windows installation ( XP Professional 2002 with SP2 )

When I go to the site of Windows Update and I look for new updates with
Express or Custom, the page begins the search with the message: "Checking
for the latest updates for your computer...", but it never finishes looking
for, and it never shows me any update to install...

My IE is version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.04803-2158

Any help, please?
