Windows Update: Never goes away

Hello:

I have automatic Windows Update turned on. Over the last 10 days, I have
been getting notification that there's an update available (KB896688). Even
after installing it and getting notified that the update was successful, it
shows up again after an hour.

How can I install it once and for all and not get these duplicate
notifications?

Thanks.

Same here. Also my windows installer fails (see message below). Did not
figure out if these problems are related yet.

Guus:

I talked to Microsoft Tech Support.

Even though I was logged in as a user who is part of the Administrator
group, it seemed that there were some privilege issues.

So, on the advice of the Technical Support person (he was extremely helpful
and courteous), I logged in as Administrator and updated the patch. It went
away!

Let me know if it works for you. Otherwise, I can send you the instructions
the Tech Support person wanted me to go through.

Well:

I was told to perform the followig steps:

Can you try the following steps for me?
- Start | Run | c:\windows\system32\com\comexp.msc (and click OK)
- Navigate to Console Root \ Component Services \ Computers \ My Computer
- Right click on My Computer and select Properties
- Select "Default Properties" Tab
-Default Authentication Level: Connect
-Default Impersonation Level: Identify
- Close Component Services console
-------------------
- Start | Run | dcomcnfg (and click OK)
- Select "Default Security" Tab
- Under Access Permissions click Edit Default
-SELF: Allow Access Permission
-SYSTEM: Allow Access Permission
- Under Launch Permissions click Edit Default
-Administrators: Allow Launch Permission
-Interactive: Allow Launch Permission
-SYSTEM: Allow Launch Permission

Doesn't seem to solve the issue for me, but didn't restart yet. And the
second part, does it also apply to "My Computer"?.
