I looked up the group topics after updating my download update software three
times! I have received the 0x80072efd message each time even after listing
the three suggested sites as trusted sites in windows explorer.I have tried
to enter them in my Norton Firewall program and it does not recognise them as
acceptable addresses!

I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas but it seems to me that there
are so many problems with this new download software that Microsoft would do
better to scrub the update completely until they have it sorted out. (Or just
forget the update altogether!) The number of complaints is just rediculous!

Does anyone else agree? Unless anyone has a "quick-fix" idea I am reverting
my computer (using Go Back) to a safe point until the mess is sorted.

Hi Frustrated - I've just got the same error too (with Norton on my PC). Have
you tried reverting back to a safe point yet, and did it work?

I've tried filling an a problem report via the Microsoft Web service thingy,
so I'll let you know if I get anything back.

I guess we're in chicken and egg land now - presumably we'll need a working
WindowsUpdate to download the fix once Microsoft know what the problem is!

And up until now I'd been quite fond of XP!

I too have read, applied every fix suggested, and now have 22 failed attempts
(80072efd) with V5.
Could it be that the people having problems downloading are more secure than
Microsoft feels we should be?

Hi rbs.

Yes I'm back at a safe point but I did this after the second abortive
attempt to update too and it still would not let me download. I'm going to
keep my computer safe until someone (is it too much to expect Microsoft!!)
sorts out a solution.

It could be that Don Healy is correct in his assumption that our computers
are more safe tham MIcrosoft would like?

Still frustrated.

I'm having the same problem. When windows update starts downloading the
selected updates, I get an 80072efd error. Download failed. I too have
tried all the suggested fixit tips, to no avail. I do not use NIS or ICF.
I'm inching closer and closer to using a completely different platform. If
anyone has a fix, I'd appreciate it.
