Windows update - no Active X (hasn't worked for 3 months!)

Numerous messages here have provide no solution to the MU / WU pages stopping
on the initial "Checking for.." page.

On a PC here that DOES handle them fine, I see a Downloaded Progam File
(ActiveX?), MuWebControlClass. This does NOT exist on my PC. I have run
(forced) the Windows Update Agent, but this makes no difference.

How to fix this?

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836973 for some repairs for Windows
Update.

See http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=a...=31&artlang=en for a
general repair for IE6.

And now it does. Looks good. I am concerned about the lack of this
MuWebClass control in Downloaded programs tho' - perhaps the above can fix
that. Supper calls and then I shall set to it. Many thanks for your kind
help, and I wil lkeep you posted on progress.

Still no joy. Found Muweb installer, but it hasn't installed the update
class in downloaded program files. I am convinced this is the problem, but
damned if i can fix it.

Cheers

Are you behind a firewall or NAT router that blocks ActiveX downloads?

Don't think so. Windows Firewall, and there is nothing I have seen in out
D-Link router that prohibits Active X. I was told 3 months back to delete the
MU ActiveX object in Downloaded P Files, and that seems to have kiboshed the
whole thing :-(. I do thin khe did it on good faith. But I'm thinking I will
have to reinstall XP as I am fed up of this

Cheers

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x8007043B
error
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False
