Windows Update no longer working

I have a Windows 2000 Server, running II6 for the intranet.

If I click the WU icon in the start menu - nothing happens.

If I go to the Windows Update website manually, when it scans my computer to
see what it needs - it just scans forever - the progressbar never stops.

After several reboots - I was able to get through a scan, and see what it
needed. But after it downloaded the updates, it said update failed when it
tried to install them.

I downloaded them all manually, and installed manually - no problem.

But I still can't get WU to work...

Any clues?

I noticed that as of today (the 19th) I do not get Windows Update anymore but
I now have Microsoft Update instead. But it's history of updates includes
those I had previously got off of Windows update just a few dasy ago.

Did MS shut down Windows Update and send us all to their "new" Microsoft
Updates??

When I tried to remove KB896688, it complained that the following updates
would no longer work properly:

KB896423
KB904706
KB905495

So I removed them all...

It didn't work....the windows update icon still does nothing, and if I go to
the update website, the progress bar continues to scan forever....

ARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!
