Error number: 0x800A01AD. I have attempted the fix that suggests that the
registry settings are incorrect. No improvement.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, removed software that was listed on Windows
site as possibly conflicting.....

I have no other choices left but to wipe out entire installation and start
again????

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates on the Windows
Update Web site
”0x800A01AD error code
To resolve this error, register the Wuaueng.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 Wuaueng.dll, and then click OK two times. “

You receive a 0x800A01AD error message while you access the Windows Update Web site

Thanks for the reply--however, I have attempted all of the posted fixes for
this error message. None have worked as of yet.

One other odd behaviour: if you click on MY COMPUTER, it takes an inordinate
amount of time before showing contents.

As a final workaround-I downloaded and installed MS Baseline Security
Advisor. At least this will let me know when I need to look somewhere else
for updates.

I am relatively sure that I will be reinstalling the entire system at a date
not far in the future.

Please post any other possible workarounds or temp fixes that I may be able
to attempt. I am NOT looking forward to reinstalling all programs.

Thanks in advance,
Jenna

Hello and thank you again:

I should have mentioned that I had removed any programs that were not used
frequently before updating to Win XP Pro SP2. I have no problem software
installed as listed on the Windows conflict site.

That being said, I already run Spybot and Ad-Aware. Both of these programs
list nothing as a problem.

I did d/l LSP repair and will try that. Will post results here later.

THX!

UPDATE:

I ran LSP repair---nothing there either. I am going to attempt to play
around with firewall settings since it seems that I am not able to perform
system restore, view files in MY COMPUTER (long delay) or view files in
Network Connections. I have a small LAN here at home.

"hardyworld",

I apologize that you are running into this issue. To help further, we need
a little more information. Are all the services running? Here's how to
find out:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. type services.msc
4. Click OK or type the <Enter> key
5. In the Services window, look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service
6. Double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service
7. In the middle of the Properties window, make sure the Startup type is set
to "Manual" or "Automatic"
8. Just below the Startup type, verify that the Service status is set to
"Started"
9. If it is not, click the Start button, and wait for the service to start.
Verify this starts.
10. Repeat steps 5-9 with the Automatic Updates service, but make sure this
is set to "Automatic".
11. Close the properties window
12. Close the Services window

Would you mind running through an attempted installation on the Windows
Update website and sending us back the results? Here's how:

On Windows XP:
1. Close all Internet browsers
2. Open a single Internet Explorer window.
3. In the Internet Explorer window, click Tools
4. Click Windows Update
5. When you reach the Windows Update site, click Custom Install
6. click Review and Install Updates
7. When presented with multiple updates, uncheck all of them except for one
update (your choice)
8. Look down at the System clock and note the time. Let the minute move
forward one, so that there is no other activity associated with this
attempt.
9. Click Install. Wait for Windows Update to fail. If it succeeds, reply
back and let us know.
10. Assuming it failed, Click Start
11. Click Run
12. Type: %WINDIR%\WindowsUpdate.log
13. Press <Enter> or Click OK
14. When the log opens, scroll down to the hour and minute you memorized in
step 8.
15. Starting at the beginning of the first entry for that minute, click and
drag down and to the right selecting the rest of the log.
16. Click Edit, then Copy, or just press the <CTRL> and <C> keys.
17. Reply to this posting.
18. When that window opens, Tell us what update you attempted to install,
and where it failed from our observation.
19. After this, on a new line, state the following and press <Enter>: Log
entries follow:
20. Place the cursor on the line under the entry from step 19, and then
click Edit, then Paste, or just press the <CTRL> and <V> keys.
21. The log entries copied in steps 15-16 should have copied into your
posting.
22. Send it to us, and let us take a look at this failure.

On Windows 2000
Repeat steps 1-22 above, with the following changes:
6. Skip this step
12. The file is "%WINDIR%\Windows Update.log" (please INCLUDE the quotes and
notice the space between windows and update)

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

I too am having the same problem. I have tried everything to get this to
work. I think I may have to resort to reformating my HD. This is crazy! I
cannot beleive all the users that I have seen on this news group that have
had this same exact problem, yet microsoft has no answers for what is
happening. HELP
