windows update will not load

I loaded the new windows update on an XP system, then ran it and a couple of
the updates failed to load, with no explanation. I rebooted and tried to run
windows update again and it will not load. Using the "services.msc" file I
found out that windows update is marked for deletion. I cannot change the
status.
