I am trying to update Windows ME on my old laptop (which I've never bothered
to do before :-( ) and all goes well until I click the 'Download and Install
now' button. The progress dialog box pops up and it just sits there with
absolutely nothing happening.

I have implemented all the suggested fixes for this problem but it still
fails.

Has any kind soul have a working fix for this problem or is it a Microsoft
problem?

Thank you.

make sure you have the latest scripting engine installed for your os.

Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows NT 4.0

Delete the files in your temporary Internet cache. Follow the instructions
below:

1. Close the Internet Explorer.
2. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon.
2. Click "Properties."
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files."

TaurArian, your help is much appreciated. It fixed the problem. It also
appears that emptying IE's cache is important as after I had downloaded and
installed all the critical updates I went back to Windows Update to update
some drivers and other non-critical components and I experienced the same
download and install dialog box that just sat there for ever without the
download ever starting. Closing everything, emptying IE's cache again and
restarting Windows Update and it all worked just fine again.

Thank you.
