Windows Update will not update : Error 0x8007045a

Hello,

I have been trying for several days to get Windows Vista running on my PC.
Every time I run the updater or the standalone, I get error code 0x8007045A.

Any help that can be offered is appreciated - I have searched and not found
a solution anywhere.

This issue likely occurs when some Windows Update components have not been
registered correctly on the system. To register these files, kindly follow
the steps mentioned below:



By trying this step, we can check the update engines.



1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.

2. Click "Start" and "Run", type "REGSVR32 ATL.DLL" (without quotations) in
the open box and click "OK".



Note: There is a space between REGSVR32 and ATL.DLL



3. Register the files listed below:

I was able to resolve this issue - unfortunately, I had a problem come up
which kept me from booting into Vista, so I reinstalled, and the issue has
not come up again.

For months I tried all the solutions available on the web including
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=243904 and downloading the WURT
repair tool, and the ones given by Microsoft here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836982/en-us but none were of any help. Not
even a Microsoft update expert who had me do all kinds of things including
reinstall the entire OS helped.
After endless trials I found the simple solution of installing the Iuctl.cab
files, at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836974/en-us Although I never
received a message stating that my Windows Update software had to be updated
I tried installing the Iuctl.cab files and it worked on Windows XP maybe it
works also on your Vista.
