Windows Update is not working for me

I have Windows XP Professional and I just recently installed it. My media
was bad, but the install finished. I did Windows Update and it installed the
newest Windows Update software. I then Upgraded XP with different media to
repair some problems. Now when I open IE and go to Tools/Windows Update, The
Windows Update Title will display, but IE hangs. I have to use Task Manager
to end the process. I have looked through the troubleshooter for Windows
Update and have done sfc /scanonce and re-registered many dlls. I have also
downloaded and installed iuctl.cab, as per the troubleshooter. I am at a
complete loss for what to do.

I recently had a similar problem on our Windows Server 2003 server when
accessing windowsupdate.com Try using this URL instead:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp When we used that
address it identified file problems and asked me to download msxmlParser.
Windows update has worked since.

Thank you for the suggestion. That still does not work.

I also have Repaired Internet Explorer and that did not help either.

What would be great is a method to completely remove all Windows Update
stuff from the Windows\System32 directory and have them reinstalled.
