Windows update - nothing

OS: XP SP1

Have been trying to figure out why windows update just sits there. Nothing
happens, no error code. On system properties, there is no Windows Update
tab. In services.msc it is there.

I want to update to SP2. Also having a 'Common Client Session' error
related to Norton AV 2004. Symantec says to download patch from MicroS.
Patch won't install, ....says WEupdate not working.

Go to START, Select RUN
Type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Press Ok
Now check the Service Manager for "Automatic Update" service
Click Start, select Run and type: Services.msc
Press Enter
Locate the - "Automatic Update"
Make sure the service is not disabled and started.

If that don't work
