Windows Update - now "History" is messed up

Last week's updates all failed to install, so I followed the
"troubleshooting" procedure of "disabling" Windows Update service, deleting
the appropriate files, and trying again. After 3 attempts with no success, I
gave up for the day.

At that point my "update history" showed ALL the patches I'd downloaded to
date, including those that failed most recently. Last night I decided to try
the "old manual" install method. I went over to Microsoft\Downloads,
retrieved the updates that failed, and tried a manual installation, one at
a time. Each succeeded.

Now for my "new" problem - Windows update "View Update History" now shows
ONLY those patches that were installed last night. Not a trace of anything
prior to them. When I "Check for Updates", all the files I just installed
still show up as needing to be installed.

Your last para seems strange - I always do manual updates - they NEVER
appear in the update history in the WU Home Page? I am not running Vista
though!

The latest batch of updates are causing may people untold problems in many
areas. That being the case, I decided to NOT install any of the updates. It
seems to me that Microsoft is also clueless about what is causing all these
problems since they have said nothing about the problems caused. Microsoft
has failed to address the issue.

If you have already installed the updates you can remove them (with the
exception of certain "security" updates) by going to Windows Update, clicking
on "Installed Updates" and removing them.

I fully realize that failing to install certain updates is not a wise
choice. However, by the same token, I feel that NOT installing updates that
are causing problems for untold thousands of people can be a wise choice. I
will install the updates when Microsoft deems it prudent to address the issue
and correct the problem updates.

When Microsoft fails to address this recent problem it indicates to me that
Microsoft does not know what is causing the problems. This is understandable,
as writing software code is no small task in itself. However, there is
absolutely no excuse for remaining silent on the matter.
