Windows Update opens with browser instead of home page

I recently went to having problems when opening my browser. Instead of the
home page I get Windows Update. I tells me that I need to download
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB889293).
I have done this and the installation history indicates that it downloaded
successfully, but I continue to get this page popping up on my browser when I
open it. I also continue to get the Windows Update pop-up when I do get to
my home page. I recently went to having problems with my registry at
start-up and have to reboot the computer to download a prior registry before
I can begin work. I've been unable to fix this too, and the problem with the
Windows Update began at the same time. I don't know what to do. Can anyone
offer advice? Thank You!

Hi, Im new here so I actually dont know how to put in a posting.
But im having the same problem as Phyl J.
I notice this was put up 6 mtonths ago and theres no reply at all.
Is this a rare occurence?
