Clicking on the Windows Update icon brings up IE, but I get:
Unable to request URL from host windowsupdate.microsoft.com:80: Connection
refused.
I went back thru a lot of the posts here and killed off all the temp files,
cookies, and history. Added *.windowsupdate.com to the trusted sites, did
the "services.msc" for both regsvr32 qmgr* updates, turned BITS, and Event
Log back on to Auto(it was set to Man). Didnt do steps 4 or 5 tho, didnt
think that would make it refuse connection...
I ran AdAware and SpyBot Search/Destroy yesterday. SD found a
"WindowsFirewallDisable" entry, but I'm running ZoneLabs Free Firewall(latest
update).
WinXP, SP2 with all patches as of last Friday.. McAfee AV (v10.0.27, engine
5100, DAT: 10/19/06). Thursday McAfee found a CD music file was infected by
a virus, 'dont remember the type, but it wasnt able to clean it or
quarentine, so it was killed off. Makes me suspicious that virus file was
found and now i cant get connect to MS Update site, either tho Update icon,
or even typing in Update URL.

It's going from bad to worse.. I can still get to MS page thru Avant (IE
