Windows update problem - please help!!

Hi all. i have a problem.

When i try to manually 'windows update' i get the following message:

"Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.
To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.
To upgrade to the latest version of the browser, go to the Internet Explorer
Downloads website"

I have the latest version of IE on my computer, i have checked and is
version 6.02?? I
then got this message as my pc crashed from windows support center:

"Microsoft security worm/virus alert
Thank you for submitting an error report.
Problem description: The error was likely caused by:

Win32/Small.M

go to Windows Live Safety Center"


Now when i try and use the new windows clean center is says i cant as i dont
have the newest version of ie, msn or windows. All are the latest versions.
Does anyone know what is going on and can any one help as a little worried.

When i follow the link to install latest version it tells me i have the
latest versions? Can anyone help a) so i can use window clean centre to rid
the virus and b) so i can do a windws update

Hi there. Im slowly going through the list thank you!

I have bullguard anti virus and firewall, is this not very good? Updated
regularly. The virus i thonk is gone but it still wont let me do windows
update. Still says i dont have the most current version of windows which i
di, even after all the steps!! Thanks again toby

Toby,

What did the scan at Kaspersky show ? You really need to be as certain
as possible that the malware has been removed from the system. It will
download other malwares and make it *extremely* difficult to obtain
updates.
Did you try booting to Safe Mode and running Bullguard from there ?

Also, you *may* need to run sfc /scannow to replace damaged/corrupted
