Hi,
I hope someone has some ideas on this:
- I have several PCs with WinXP SP2 with an identical problem
- I have several other PCs (Various OS versions) with no problem
- They are connected to an internal network with an HTTP Proxy server
on port 8080
- Getting to the Windows update (v5) site is OK
- Scanning for updates is OK
- When trying to install updates, the download freezes at 0%
I did some investigating with netstat and found:
- On the working PCs, Windows Update is smart enough to use the proxy
server specified in the connection settings.
- On the non-working PCs, Windows Update will not use the specified
proxy settings and try to connect to the Windows Update server
directly, thereby idling out. (Since my network firewall blocks that
traffic.)
I've tried the following with no success:
- Disabling the WinXP firewall
- Enabling the the Proxy Auto Detect option
- Enabling "Use HTTP 1.1"
- Disabling "Use HTTP 1.1"
- Enabling "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections"
- Disabling "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections"
Any ideas? Is this possibly a bug in IE?
Thanks!
-Christan
