Hi. I just got a brand new PC with Vista two days ago...and since I got it, I
have gotten several Windows Update errors. I cannot remember the first one I
got, but I tried one fix for it I found and that produced another error
message so I thought I undid what I did. However, now I'm getting this
situation. Wndows Update connects and says it has to install an update to the
Windows Update software. It connects, appears to install this update,
restarts Windows Update and then I get error 8007007B, saying it could not
search for updates. I click Try again, and then it tries to download this
update for the Windows Update software again. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Error message when you try to install updates on a Windows Vista-based
computer by using Windows Update or when you try to perform a backup: "Code
0x8007000b":

<cmd_output OS="XPsp2">
G:\>set /a c = 0x7B
123
G:\>net helpmsg %c%

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

</cmd_output>

So, which filename, etc. is incorrect?

Codes by themselves are usually useless.
Find the context of the hex value (or the equivalent decimal value)
in any logs that the update wrote to.
