Everytime I try to go to Windows Update
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof....aspx?ln=en-us I get
redirected to a phishing site
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate&ln=en-us.
How do I repair this and warn others of the same!

DEBNC,

The first link is NOT Windows Update, rather, it's Microsoft Update.
In order for the system to access MU the page you're being redirected to
is an OPT IN one where the software controls for MU will be installed.

How are you attempting to access Windows Update ? From the Windows
Update link on the Start Menu; from the Tools|Windows Update link in IE?
If IE, which version of IE ?

Suggest you try this link -
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...ult.aspx?ln=en

Notice it has windowsupdate, not microsoftupdate after update.microsoft.com
Clear IE's cache if need be from Start > Settings > Control Panel >
Internet Options
Click the Delete files button and also choose to delete Offline content.
Clear IE's History and Cookies, too, if need be.

From the Windows Update on the start menu. The properties for Windows Update
which I click to check for updates were C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe
C:\Windows\System32\rsmui [or something like that]. I went to
C:\Windows\System32\Wupdmgr.exe and created a shortcut to it and that works
fine so I deleted the alters one.

MS 'upgraded' windows update to Microsoft update, whereby updates can be
sourced in a single place for all(?) MS apps installed on a sys.
In order to 'upgrade' you are directed to install certain software/controls,
once done the update shortcut on the Start menu becomes 'Microsoft Update'

If you read the url you posted its clearly not a phishing site.
