Windows Update Repeats

I have a question, I'm sure it's been brought up before but I couldn't find
it. Anyways, Windows update goes to update 4 files. It downloads them and
installed them the first time. Now it keeps prompting me to download these
same files. I download them, and click finish. This repeats over and over.
What is the issue? Why is it asking me to download the same updates over and
over?

I am seeing the same issue. After they are downloaded and installed they
don't appear in the regestry settings of my pc. Can someone please advise?

>I have seen this happen also, especially with Internet

Explorer updates. First, let me say something
profound ... Microsoft's detection mechanism for
determining which updates you need, is what's at fault
combined with so many re-releases of patches for same
flaws. What is most important to you is whether you have
teh patch installed right? You can run MS's MBSA or
Shavlik's HfNetChkPro to perform a full system scan, and
follow their recommendations OR you can look up each
identified patch and read the instructions for determining
if the patch has been applied (i.e. usually a combination
of file dates and version numbers). This is gotten out of
control :-)) There was a time you could simply check
which patches you wanted, now you need to "manually"
determine if you have the patch even installed!

There are better ways to managing patches though (as I
mentioned above). Windows update (web site) just doesn't
cut it anymore.

This seemed to have worked for me.
Log in as Administrator.
Got to Windows Update site.
Choose custom install.
Install updates.
The Windows update icon appeared again on restart but with different updates
than the one that was repeating. I ran it one more time and that solved my
problem.
Good luck I hope that helps.
