Chrome installation fails as installer requires an update to windows.
Manually running windows update shows there are no high priority or optional
updates outstanding. Any explanations as to problem and what update they
are talking about?? Appreciate help in resolving

I doubt that Windows needs an update installed unless it's a reference
to install the most recent version of Windows Installer for XP -

FWIW, you should post this to the Google Chrome Install/Uninstall issues
forum -

Thanks for response and links. I've downloaded installer package but note
it was date September 2010. I assume this would have been downloaded during
subsequent patch Tuesday updates. I've also posted to Chrome forum. Thanks
again

No, I don't think this is something Windows Update will offer you yet.

There are many updates that most people don't need which only get to Windows
Update when a service pack comes out.

Chrome should be telling you that you need it and directing you to a web
page to download it.
