already posted the beginning of this, new troubles added on
Last week I updated this Win2k system including the GDI detection tool
(KB973374). It sent me immediately to the office update, the reboot
notice for windows update got buried. So I rebooted after all the updates.
Then when I returned to windows update there were 3 additional critical
updates (KB841356, 840987, 841533). They downloaded, appeared to
install, then I get a failure notice: No Updates were installed, updates
failed to install.
I tried them one at a time ortogether and they fail.
I installed less important updates and tried again and they fail
Installed DirectX 9.0c end-user runtime and tried again and not only do
they fail, but DirextX shows up again in update.
so now I have 3 critical updates failing to install and DirectX
installing perfectly but not registring as such.
so then I follow some instructions regarding reregistering dlls which
makes things worse: when I go to windows update I get "Your current
security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page"
followed by a page saying I need administrator priviledges. I am using
the administrator account and tried various solution to the active X
thing, reset security to medium, it was but..., I set windows update up
s a trusted site, nothing works.
any ideas how to fix this?
