Windows Update SP2 failed

I get the following error when trying to update to SP2.
"Installation Failure
Error Code: 8007F0CC
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources.
"
Does anyone know where there is a list of error codes and their meanings?
Or how to get the SP2 install to work???

Error 0x8007f0cc is:

STATUS_KERNEL_NONSTD
The core system file (kernel) used to start this computer is not a
Microsoft Windows file. The Service Pack will not be installed.


If you have a modifies boot screen or something like that, this
might be the cause:
