I receive an 0x8024502D error after selecting Custom or Express updates.
I've taken all the steps in the KB article without effect. I've a single P3
PC running xp pro with Norton Internet Security (NIS) providing firewall and
virus scan. I have popup blocker off in WinExplorer and in NIS. I've
recently replaced the HD due to a failure and reloaded WinXP, Office and
other MS apps, so the system is relatively clean. Nothing odd or unusual
added yet.

Any ideas would be appreciated

0x8024402C or 0x8024502d error codes
To resolve these errors, remove characters from the proxy exception list,
and then clear the proxy cache. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Open
Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click Advance.
4. Delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
5. Quit Internet Explorer.
6. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
7. Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.• proxycfg -d
• net stop wuauserv
• net start wuauserv

This is the actual article from MS.

As I stated in the request, I did the microsoft stuff and followed all the
KB articles, including the thing about the proxy (I don't have one, it
couldn't find one, but I did it anyway) and nothing worked. The problem
actually became moot at about 10 pm EST when the page miraculously
reappeared. I begin to think it was an MS problem and they don't have an
error page that says "It's our fault". I have no other explanations.

Thanks for the input, your presence and willingness to help are really
appreciated.
