I am updating new laptops at work, they are preinstalled with XP SP2. Proxy
server is set up ok, can get email and internet.

The updates stop downloading about two-thirds of the way through on each,
sit for a while then fail.

Any ideas?

You may try out the following:

Clear the local proxy cache on your machine.
Click on Start - Run.
Type 'cmd' in the "OPEN" box to get a DOS prompt.
Type 'proxycfg -d' at the DOS command prompt, and press Enter.
Type 'proxycfg -u' at the DOS command prompt, and press Enter.

Sorry about the blank post.....

I found that if you have checked "Automatically detect settings" in the LAN
settings in IE, the proxy settings will not propogate to the proxy config you
have metioned. Uncheck this, and all is well.
