Mid Way through a scan it freezes and CPU use goes to 100%. I have run a
full virus scan and used System Restore to go back two months but same
results.
Anyone have a solution?

Hi Shooter,
I'm having the same problem. I was able to update yesterday in this way. I
restarted my computer and opened IE. I went to the Windows Update site and
clicked on the Express button.
I did nothing else and pushed no other buttons and after about 10 minutes
the updates finally downloaded.
I went through this problem the last time a round of updates came out about
a month ago.
Do you have IE 7? I do. I think that it may be an IE 7 thing. I will let
you know if I find anything out.

Hi Adrian and Shooter,
I found a fix that worked for me on Microsoft's Update Troubleshooter site.
Try this,
Disable the options "Automatically detect settings" and "Use automatic
configuration script."
To do this:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click "Tools," and then click "Internet Options."
3. Click "Connections," and then click "LAN Settings."
4. Make sure the check boxes for "Automatically detect settings" and "Use
automatic configuration script" are not selected.

Try to access the Windows Update site again.

It worked for me. I have windows XP Home with IE 7.
Good luck!

I tried it ...no go. I have IE7 and XP. I'm thinking of going to Foxfire
and see if that helps. I'm sure it is something with one of the Updates from
Microsoft and hope they respond.
