Windows Update Stops at searching for new updated software

Everytime i click on the windows update tab under the
programs menue it goes to the windows website and says it
is searching for new updates. It will stay at that screen
and will do nothing more. And I also do not have a
windows update tab under my system properties box. Can
Anyone help me? Thanks

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer:

I had your problem and took someone's advice to point my browser at the
following URL to get to Windows Update.

https://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.c....aspx?ln=en-us

Click on Yes when the Security Information dialog box pops up. Update
version 5 works properly for me after this. Don't know why. The only
difference in the URL is htpps instead of http. I'm baffled but it works
(for me).
