Windows update upgraded, then gets stuck! and does nothing

Hi,

I have windows 2000 sp4. I went to the windows update site and it told me
to upgrade my version of windows update so I followed the links and eveything
installed successfully....but now when I click on "Express" or "custom" to
search for updates....it just stays at the progress indicator saying
"checking for the latest updates for your computer" ..... it's been half an
hour and still at the same screen...I remember the old windows update was
really fast...and was usually 33%, then 66%, then 100%.....this one is taking
too long...

what's wrong? how to fix it? is anyone experiencing the same prolem?

I have same problem. That sucks! Old version was better.
