Windows Updates (accessing it through administrator options) and it needing
50 patches scanning through Windows Update V6??

The V4 site is the Windows Catalog. How are you doing a scan of the
system there ? AFAIK, one can only pick a specific OS and then see all
of the updates available for it. There is no scan option offered.

I go to windows update.
Choose "Use Administrator options" on the left.
Choose search the "windows update catalog".
Choose windows update along the left side under "See Also".
This brings up the V4 windows update site, I hit "scan for updates" and it
goes through a scan but does not show updates needed.

Thanks.

OK. After you access the Windows Update web site, what is the first page
in the right frame that is presented to you ?
It *should* show :

" Welcome
to Windows Update

New ! Get Microsoft Update today ! --> Go

etc ...

Express [button]

Custom [button]

Concerned about privacy? When you check for updates, basic information
about your computer, not you, is used to determine which updates your
programs need. To learn more, see our privacy statement. "

Is that what you're seeing ?

Are Automatic Updates enabled ? - Right click My Computer either on the
Desktop or Start Menu; choose Properties. Click the Automatic Updates
tab. What is it set to ?

Why would you expect v4 of Windows Update to work? It has been superseded
by v6, the version now in service. You do not need v4 of Windows Update for
anything other than the Windows Update Catalog function.

I notice 98SE still uses version 4. I just wanted to add that older
versions of Windows use the older Windows Update service. I am just
adding my two cents and not trying to contradict you, Robin.
