FYI
On my site, Windows update stopped to work starting with
V5.
Reason was the .pac file was hosted on an FTP Server.
Moving it to an http server solved the 0x80072EE2 error.

So be sure you're using an http://xxx/proxy.pac and not
an ftp://xxx/proxy.pac link for IE proxy script
configuration.

Hope it helps,
I've wasted some hours before finding this issue with
WindowsUpdate V5.

Hi,

As I understand you are getting error 0x80072EE2 when you try to run latest
windows updates from windows update site. To resolve this issue follow the
knowledge base article given below.

I am attaching the link.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836941
You receive an "Error 0x80072EE2" or "Error 0x80072EFD" error message when
you try to use Windows Update

Please let me know if the workaround given in this knowledge base article
helps!

Thank You,

Harish.G

I had the same problem with a file url (eg: file://somedir/proxy.pac). Again,
changing to a http url 'fixed' the problem.

It does seem that Microsoft can't quite get there heads around this one. I
tried logging this problem with MS, only to be told exactly the same as below.

Rather than continually tell us the same workaround, why not fix the problem?

Cheers.
