Windows Update v5 doesn't do anything

V5 of windows update doesn't do anything. You click on windows update in the
Tools menu, windows update page loads up, and thats it.
The window that comes up says checking for latest version of the W U
software, but there isn't anything happening with my connection at all.
On the left on the menu list It has a Install Updates greyed out. And if you
click it you get an exact copy of the window appear again.

Anyone got any clues????

I have the same problem however mine came about in a
different way. I had installed SP2 and Windows Update
worked fine but had to uninstall SP2 till an apllication
fix came out for a program I have. After I uninstalled I
ran Windows Update and the old version was there and it
had an update that it installed fine. However subsequent
times I went I saw the V5 version and it hung on Checking
for latest version. I reinstalled SP2 yesterday and it's
still doing the same thing. The only thing in
Microsoft's knowledge base about this problem is having
to do with a conflict in Zone Alarm, but I dont have Zone
Alarm.

Hi, I have a Win2003 Standard Edition new clean server, and this approach
didn't work because these DLLs do not exist in Win2003. I looked for others
and they're registered.
Win2003 uses v4 of WinUpdate, but I have the same symptoms you mention.

Any clue?

At command prompt type each of these commands and look for "success"
indication:

Thanks for the tips guys but the problem was really the DLL version.
Because Microsoft updated their server engine, I got version ...14 of
iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll (The version I had was ...0) from another Win2003
Server, copied the new DLLs over the old ones, and registered iuctl.dll
(iuengine doesn't need to be registered).
