Windows Update (validation) corruption

Hi,
I attempted to download and install the validation up-date today. (not sure
of number). It stopped during install, and locked my system. I tried to
cancel, and then reboot my system (XP Home SP2). Now I can start windows but
no programmes will run at all, except the internet. Obviously I can't get
into add/remove programmes to see if I can remove the up-date, as i feel it
has corrupted.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am also having the same problem, can't get MSWord or MSExcell to work
anymore can only open Acrobat Reader. Please help!

Did you try a System Restore to a date before the problem occurred ?

I have tried to do system restore, but it does not change anything

You may have caused some damage when you forced a shutdown then.

I cannot get my computer to scannow, have tried to do so using the link, but
still not able to.
