Windows Update vs Microsoft Update

I see that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that we ALL have
to use their new Microsoft Update and I, for one, do HATE that. Every link
to Windows Update now redirects you to Microsoft Update.

Whether it is valid or not, it FEELS like MU is scanning my whole computer,
just looking for something illegal or wrong whereas WU never gave that
impression. WU existed for Microsoft to provide US with updates not
MICROSOFT with info on us.

That's news to me. Are you sure you didn't opt into Microsoft Update ?
First try these links :
http://v6.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...ult.aspx?ln=en

If the system is redirected to MU, is there a Change settings link in
the left frame ?
When you click it, is there an option to opt out of MU in the right frame ?

You must have opted to use MU instead of WU.

To reset WU as your default: Go to Microsoft Update > Click on Change
Settings in left pane > Scroll to bottom of page > To Stop Using Microsoft
Update > Disable Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update
only (check).

Thank you for helping me get Windows update back. I have no idea how I got
"into" Microsoft Update as I have been deliberately avoiding it.
Nevertheless, I obviously did.

Thank you again.

What's the difference between MU and WU? Does MU include updates to Office
that WU doesn't?
