Hi,

when i try to uppdate a w2k sp4 via Windows Update website, i recieve this
error message:

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem."

I installed the new version of WU tool (during the analisys for new
patches), and after that i cannot view any result.

Anyone have the same problem?

Thanks

gio

Hi Giorgio:

I'm seeing the same problem, which also started when I installed the new
version of the WU tool.

Try this as a workaround:
1. Select the "Use administrator options" from the menu on the left of the
Windows Update page
2. Select the "Windows Update Catalog" link within the "Update Multiple
Operating Systems" paragraph on the right
3. Select the "Windows Update" link from the menu on the left of the page.

Alternatively, simply go to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp

From there you should be able to scan for and pick updates to install.

Regards,
Brian

I am seeing this same problem on two Windows 2000 Servers on one domain, on
an XP Pro install from another domain on the same network, and on a freshly
installed XP laptop, on an completely different network. What's going on?

thanks Brian,

i already tried this and i installed the rollup 1 for w2k. i restarded the
machine but, if i try to run wu, the problem appears again. moreover, if i
follow the workaround, the wu suggest still the only one critical patch:
"Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (KB891861)"

i don't know if the problem is the same but if i use the mbsa v.2, i cannot
download any security upddate inforamtion from microsoft ( proxy problem?, i
don't think so).

the result is that the tool is not able to scan the machine

I think you might have found a problem with my workaround. Maybe it does
not see the very latest updates. My server is completely patched, but after
reviewing the installation history, it appears that it automatically
downloaded several updates, rather than retrieved them via the website.
Activity for today as follows:

KB814078 - Web site
Q329115- Web site
KB891861 - web site
KB833989 - Web site
KB897715 - Web site
KB893756 - Automatic update
KB899588 - Automatic update
KB899587 - Automatic update
KB896423 - Automatic update
KB899591 - Automatic update
KB896727 - Automatic update

Brian

I don't know what's happening, but this forum won't allow me to post unless
I reply.

What could be causing this?

I had a question about Multiples of the same updates showing up in My
Windows Update history and how to remove them.

If you have a popup blocker active, disable it
or allow it to show the site you are using.
(Not all web portals have the same site name
so I can't be more specific without knowing
where you are posting from.)

The problem is that I have multiple entries for the same update in Update
History and I would like to remove them.

Don't worry about that. It just means that you applied those updates
more than once. (IOW it is a record of what was done more than a
representation of your current update status.)

BTW I shouldn't have quoted your question.
I was only trying to help explain your problem with using
the web interface to this newsgroup.
