Hi for some reason when i go on windows update i get a strange problem. When
i click search for updates it tells me i have 6 critical ones to install so i
click the link to be taken to the updates for review. When i do so it opens
up the very first 'search for updates page again but within the original
window!:

The key to this problem may be the URL in the Address bar
but I can't read it. If it says V4... that suggests that you may have
an overriding entry in your HOSTS file or your DNS is giving you
a bad lookup. BTW how are you starting this? I.e., what specifically
does "when i go on windows update" mean procedurally?

To get a better handle on what is happening either take a packet trace
or slow down the processing enough to notice what the transitions are
in the Status bar. To do the latter you could temporarily change
your security setting for Active Scripting to Prompt. Another possibility
if you are using a firewall would be use it to monitor and record the
requests which are being made (assuming that it has such a capability.)
