0x80070005 ????

The worst nightmare in WU !!!!!

ACCESS DENIED !!!!

Haven't found any certain solution yet to this error.

Try to remove any antivirus software and.... cross fingers

On one of my Win2k Servers, when it attempts to update the Windows Update,
the download seems to proceed but I then get the error 0x8007041D, even with
the Symantec Antivirus Corp Ed disabled. Any ideas?

I was able to fix the server by running (at the command prompt) regsvr32
msxml3.dll and then going to the Windows Download site and downloading
the latest WinHTTP and BITS update and then the latest Installer update.
After rebooting, the Windows Update site performed properly.

He also has a /WSUS/ server configured in policy... but the BITS queue still
has pending downloads from WindowsUpdate.

And long before the 0x8007005 error pops up (which may simply be a
downstream error), we see this:

0x8024401a - SUS E PT HTTP STATUS BAD METHOD
HTTP Status 405 - method is not allowed

I would suggest running 'bitadmin /reset /allusers' to clear the BITS queue
from the failed WindowsUpdate downloads,

and then forcing a new detection cycle with the WSUS server and allowing the
WUA to download the needed updates from the WSUS server.

1.I have tried all methods before your post, did not work.

2. While searching the location of "bidadmin", I found out one more
problem -- my Search function on this server does not work, even reboot
does not fix it.

3. I did a search on another Win2K server and could not find this file,
what exactly I have to install to get this tool?

Hi,

The name of the file is "bitsadmin.exe"...

Latest version of bitsadmin.exe is in the Windows XP Service Pack 2
Support Tools:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I think it should work to install the Support Tool kit on a WinXP
computer, and then copy bitsadmin.exe to your Win2k computer.

Torgeir,

During the whole process of troubleshooting, is it better to have this
server update from the Microsoft server on Internet, or from my
internal SUS? I know it will work in both or none, I just want to
determine which one will give me less side issues and let me
concentrate in this case.


After I ran the bidsadmin tool, here is the message:

Doesn't look like it had found or terminated anything, no surprise that
