WINDOWS UPDATE WITHOUT CHOICE

Hello All,

I am running Windows XP and everytime in the past when updates were
available, Windows asked me if I wanted to install them. Also, if I
right-clicked on the system tray WU icon, it would let me pause and resume
the update. Windows is now attempting to download an update on my pc that
it never asked me if I wanted and further, provides me no way to pause (or
identify) it. Does anyone know what this update is (or how I can find out)
and why Windows is giving me no choice in the matter?

Regards,

Ron

Open Control Panel > Automatic Updates and turn it off. Then you'll be able
to go to WindowsUpdate and see what you may need.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the info. I went to the Windows Update function under control
panel and the current setting was "notify me, but don't automatically
download or install them". It seems to be ignoring that for some reason, so
I set it to "turn off automatic updates". Any thoughts as to why it was
ignoring my settings?
